People often
assume that Udaipur is only made up of many palaces and there is not much do.
Well, that is certainly wrong! The White city of India also has many activities
line up for its guests. Some of these directly reflect on the ancient old culture
and history but the others are of a more modern approach. From malls to
aquariums, shows and collections, Udaipur has it all! Here, are a few must do’s
apart from the strenuous monumental excursions.
Sound and
Light Show- City Palace
The sound and
Light show held in the Manek Chowk of the City Palace takes its audience back
to the majestic Mewar rule. Through this, you can get a glimpse of the various
Mewar rulers and their story. The shows in Hindi are from 8 pm to 9 pm (May to
August) and the English shows are from 7 to 8 pm (Sept to March) and from 7:30
pm to 8:30 pm (April). These shows are enjoyed by both domestic and foreign
crowds. Thes sound and light shows are pretty affordable as well. They range
from Rs.200 to Rs.600 depending on the language and the age group.
Vintage Car
Collection
The vintage
car collection showcases some of the classic, 20 antique, royal cars which
makes this place worth visiting. It is located on the Gulab Bagh Road near the
Gulab Bagh Zoo and the Garden Hotel. It has cars like four classic Rolls-Royce,
one MG-TC convertible, two 1939 Cadillacs, one Ford-A Convertible, rare models
of Mercedes, solar operated rickshaws and several others. It opens at 9 am to 9
pm and the tickets are Rs.250 for adults and Rs.150 for children.
Under the
Sun Aquarium
Under the
Sun Aquarium, located at Fateh Sagar Lake, near Overflow is India’s biggest
public aquarium. It holds 150 different species of fishes. Apart from
fresh-water fishes, it also holds other sea creatures Albino frogs, Indonesian
crabs, Fire belly newts, freshwater scampi etc. Its timings are from 8 am to 11
pm. You can also go for the Virtual Reality Experiences provided via latest VR
Gadgetry to see the rarest of life under the sea.
Maharana
Pratap Memorial
The Maharana Pratap Memorial, located at the top of Moti Magri is one of the greatest tributes to Maharana Pratap one of the greatest warriors associated with Rajasthan and India. Here, you can find the life-sized bronze statue of Maharana Pratap on his beloved horse Chetak. The museum is decorated with brilliant paintings with historical importance. The entry fees are extremely cheap with the prices being Rs.20 for Indian adults, Rs.10 for Indian kids and Rs.50 for foreign adults.
Crystal
Gallery
The crystal
gallery was built by Maharana Sajjan Singh and today it is known to be the
largest private collection of crystals in the world. This magical place has 600
unique items, most of which are one of a kind. Its main feature is a crystal
embedded carpet which is woven with gold and silver threads. Various household
items like mirrored tabletops, crockery, crystal bed and more can be seen. It
is said that all the items were customized according to the royal family
members. Crystal Gallery is open for tourism from 9 am to 7 pm. However,
photography is strictly prohibited so that none of the artifacts are
duplicated.

Lake Pichola
Boat ride
Visiting the
City of lakes and not taking a peaceful ride on the Pichola Lake is a pure
crime. The enchanting view of the sunset and sunrise should not be missed by anyone.
The boat has a seating capacity of 6-8 people. The route is from Rameshwar Ghat
to Lake palace and then it stops at Jag Mandir.
Gothwal Art
Gothwal art is a miniature and contemporary art gallery. You can buy miniature outstanding paintings which showcase the Rajasthani art forms and styles. It's located in Panchsheel Marg, Udaipur. This shop is one of the small but precious gems of Udaipur Art.
